LearningModule: eBusiness (upgrade): 3. eBusiness Technology
Description: eBusiness applications present a number of technical challenges, including both general software engineering challenges as well as application-specific ones. This lesson introduces some of the most important concepts for the technological aspects of eBusiness applications, including client/server and multi-tier architecture, design patterns, middleware and the role of XML, in particular for web services.
Objectives: You will be able to use the concept of architecture for distributed applications. You will understand the most important technical terms of reusable application design. In particular, you will be familiar with the technical terms of object-oriented middleware and understand the concept and role of XML in web-based applications.
Prerequisites: You should be familiar with the first learning module on this topic, "eBusiness Applications Overview". Moreover, you should have sound general knowledge regarding information technology (communication technology, operating systems, programming languages), and have a basic knowledge of business processes and organisation. Finally, you should have basic knowledge on application development processes and, for some lessons in this module, object oriented programming.
